{'I could have killed them' - Lawson encounters dangerous incident with F1 marshals
Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two marshals crossed the track right in his path
The dangerous situation occurred on the third lap when track officials were observed on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to swap his broken nose section
Competitor's Live Reaction
Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"
"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"
"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I got to Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes running across the track"
"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"
Track Safety Questioned
"Evidently there's been a communication breakdown at some point but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"
"We fail to grasp how on a live track track officials can be authorized to just run across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some form of reasoning, but this must never be repeated"
Formal Inquiry in Progress
The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the events
"Following a turn one incident, the race directors was advised that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the regulatory authority
"During the third lap, marshals were alerted and put on alert to enter the track and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"
"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the orders to send marshals were withdrawn and a caution signal was raised in that area"
"The examination is ongoing what happened subsequent to that time"
