Last Ship of 42-Strong Pro-Palestinian Flotilla Intercepted by Israel's Military

The last boat of the 42-vessel aid flotilla attempting to break the Israeli decade-plus sea blockade on Gaza has been intercepted by Israel's naval units.

Flotilla Halt and Expulsion Procedures

Per government declarations, procedures are presently in progress to remove the approximately 450 crew members currently in detention. Among those apprehended are several Italian MPs who are projected to go back to their home country on a regular aircraft.

Remaining Boat Details

Footage from Thursday night showed the remaining boat being manned by multiple people, comprising three Turkish nationals, a German citizen, and an Omani activist. The Australia's captain of the vessel commented via digital communication: "We have a group of highly resilient Turkey's participants aboard... we're planning to proceed in our direction."

Per a protest spokesperson, the ship had become part of the fleet behind schedule after bad weather forced it to head back to harbor in the Spanish city.

Past Precedent

This halt marks the nearest any unsanctioned humanitarian attempt has advanced to the Gaza territorial waters since Israeli authorities established its maritime restriction in 2009. The boat was stopped when it was calculated to be forty-two point five maritime miles from the Gaza's waters.

Previous efforts by activists to penetrate the maritime blockade have been halted by force. In twenty ten, a dozen Turkish participants were lost their lives when Israel's military units stormed the lead ship as it headed an aid mission toward the Gaza Strip.

Further Vessel Details

Another vessel identified as Mikeno was reported to have entered into Gaza Strip's coastal area, idling 9 nautical miles off the coast before being apprehended. However, organizers indicated they had been unable to reach with the vessel's crew some time earlier.

"It could be a monitoring error or a equipment issue with the surveillance," commented a spokesperson. "We will only have confirmation after communicating with the personnel, which is not possible at present as they are being held by Israel's authorities."

Ongoing Circumstances

The detained crew members from the mission are being transported to Israel where they will face removal procedures. Multiple participants on this latest attempt, such as well-known participant the Swedish activist, have been before detained by Israeli authorities while seeking to break the restriction.

Traditionally, activists apprehended by Israel have generally not been criminally prosecuted and their involvement has been considered as an border control issue rather than a criminal offense.
