Man Utd Boss Ruben Amorim Confesses He Can't Run From Underwhelming Performance
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim feels the stress during their 3-1 defeat at Brentford
Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim acknowledges he cannot hide from his poor record and says it is expected that club former stars are commenting on him.
Recently, the club's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney mentioned during his show that "the soul has gone" from his old team.
The Portuguese manager has secured just eighteen wins from his forty-nine matches in charge, featuring nine out of thirty-three in the Premier League, where he has still to achieve two consecutive wins.
Although senior club sources are certain that the INEOS chief continues to be behind the manager, failure to overcome newly promoted Sunderland on Saturday will ignite new discussion about his future heading into another fortnight international break.
"It is expected," stated the Portugal-born coach, when questioned about Rooney's observations. "You can't hide from the performance."
"Furthermore you have the baggage from the previous campaign, [although] last season for me is irrelevant."
Supporter Reaction and Current Situation
Manchester United's fans remained supportive of their manager following the previous campaign's disappointing showing, when they ended up fifteenth in the league - their worst performance since the 1973-74 demotion season - and were beaten in the Europa League final, in the expectation that this season would be significantly better.
Amorim assured fans the position would change because he had more opportunity to prepare with his team without the midweek commitment of European football.
That is not been how the initial six fixtures have developed as Manchester United have experienced three losses so far and sit 14th in the league.
Coach's Reaction to Concerns
When questioned what assurances he could give followers that the situation will get better, the manager continued: "This is not the time to talk, it is the moment to prove."
"Personally review the fixtures in the current campaign and, for me, they are completely different, but I have little to add at this moment."
- Manchester United presently occupy the fourteenth position in the Premier League
- Amorim has secured just 18 of his forty-nine games in control
- Wayne Rooney recently questioned the club's present direction
- The upcoming fixture against Sunderland is critical for Amorim's future
