The England manager Questions Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Wales Victory.
The England head coach shared his disappointment that the England team did not get greater support from the Wembley fans during their commanding triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
Tuchel was pleased to see his side maintain their winning momentum, with finishes from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the match. Yet, he was displeased with the mood at the national stadium.
“With one and a half sessions to prepare against a drilled team and we performed excellently,” Tuchel remarked. “We could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We missed the additional ones. There was little noise. We didn’t get support from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you give in 20 minutes? We prevented them get away. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s sad because the team deserved greater backing today.”
“I support my words. We cannot do more than leading 3-0 in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a little more backing in phases where it becomes tough.”
“In the second half, to get behind us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to recharge, but that’s the way it went and that is it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Apart from risking a fight with fans, the manager also caused a stir by omitting Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. Yet the move was justified by Morgan Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“He is what he is,” Tuchel noted. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is competing for his position.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Lessons from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who face Belgium in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, take lessons from their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I wanted this game,” Bellamy stated. “I wanted to assess our standing. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance gives me drive.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at the break after clattering into a post and is a concern when England face Latvia in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on Tuesday.
